Community Storytelling

Are you telling your story in a "top down" or "bottom up" method?

Organizations commonly tell their story in a "top down" method where their CEO or other official tells what they are going to do to the community. It is more effective and impactful to take a "bottom up" approach, finding community voices that can instead say what the project will do for them. These authentic stories can maintain and grow public support for any project -- or support a cause.

In Their Own Words

Building Community Connections

Instead of MARTA officials explaining what their first bus rapid transit (BRT) project would do to a community, we allowed the community to tell what MARTA is doing for them. Hear from residents, students, small business owners, and developers about the importance of the first BRT line in Georgia.

Economic Impact of Transit

You won't find any official transit voices in this video created for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS). That's by design. Your story is much stronger when you allow community voices to tell what you have done for them. We know how to create an authentic story that still hits on all your organizations' strategic messaging goals.

Downtown Entrepreneurs

Rather than having Atlanta Downtown staff talk about what their business accelerator program is doing for others, we spent time with the participants to let these entrepreneurs tell us what the program is doing for them. It's a much more authentic story when you hear why they choose to be in Downtown Atlanta in their own words.

Community Advocacy

We successfully supported Central Atlanta Progress in their advocacy to keep Five Points Station open by capturing real stories from community members so that decision-makers could better understand the direct impact to individuals and businesses. The impact of these stories led to the decision to keep the station open during construction work.

Case Study: Midtown Alliance

Midtown Alliance | 2024 Annual Report Video

Midtown Alliance trusts us to tell their story through their community members' voices with a message that is true to their brand. See how we captured their story through 6 individual events throughout 2024. Our approach puts authentic community voices first while also weaving in a few key statements from their leadership staff. We were able to tell the Midtown Alliance story by asking strategic questions to event attendees to elicit a narrative that met Midtown Alliance's 2024 messaging goals. You can see the individual event stories below or view the Midtown Alliance 2024 annual report here.

Art Walk Launch Party

It's not your typical event video. We interview organizers and attendees to weave together an authentic narrative that summarizes your event while also tying in to your overall strategic messaging points.

Parliament of Owls

Community storytelling gives a personal voice to your brand, allowing your story to be told in a relatable and authentic manner by the people that attend your event. Let your community members help tell the story of your work!

The Mutt Gala

Event storytelling. It's much more than an event recap video when you can leverage your participants to tell a meaningful story that connects to your organizational values and messages. We're happy to continue our work with Midtown Alliance as they actively program public spaces to connect our community.

North Avenue Station Activation

Watch how Midtown Alliance leverages partnerships to transform a formerly empty concrete plaza at a MARTA transit station into a lively community space.

Outdoor Podcasting

The pandemic taught us the value of community connections. Midtown Alliance fuels those connections by building, maintaining, and activating public spaces with an invitation to the public to participate in community building.

Behind The Scenes of Midtown Events

Midtown Green and Midtown Blue staff work hard to put on 120 events and activations annually in Midtown's public spaces and they do it with a smile while knowing they are creating places for human connection.

Our Storytelling Process

We start by asking questions to understand the story that you need to tell.

1. What are your specific brand and culture goals?

2. What is your intended audience to connect with?

3. Which storytellers have a personal testimonial that would best connect with that audience?

   · We assemble the narrative organically. Nothing is scripted. No voice overs.

   · We want every story to be authentic and thorough, but direct and to the point.
