AS3 Storytelling is all about the human connection. We help our clients tell their story through their community members so that the story is representative of the people being served. We do this by working with you to identify a variety of community storytellers whose personal stories will build support for your projects and initiatives.
Once we identify the storytellers and the overall message themes that will support your goals, we conduct interviews in an active environment that creates an authentic and relatable narrative that will connect with your audiences – particularly to help convince decision makers to support your work.
Too often, public engagement campaigns seek to simply "have a video" to check a box on a list of tactics, but the quality of the story falls short. Stories are often presented through the voice of the agency telling the public what they are going to do to the community. It is more effective to take the time to find community voices that will tell their story of what the project will do for them. This is a winning approach to maintain and grow public support for transit and infrastructure investments.
It’s sort of like a ‘street film’ documentary and it works to resonate with a wide audience. Real stories from real people create authentic connections. While it can take more time to collect these stories and create a cohesive narrative, the result is a compelling story that can sustain public support over time.
Adam Shumaker is our Principal and Chief Storytelling Officer. His career has included nearly two decades at CNN, founding and operating Adam Shumaker Productions, and leading the Office of Digital Media at the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA). At CNN, he traveled the world and specialized in creating long-form news stories as a ‘one-man-band’ without the help of a TV reporter. In the absence of a script or voiceover, he found ways to interview people from all walks of life so they could narrate their story clearly, concisely, and authentically. Adam continued to hone this skill at MARTA, creating multiple video series that featured transit customers and transit employees. Their heartfelt and personal stories, told first-person, supported the overall strategic goals of the transit authority while increasing brand authenticity.
Adam also currently serves as Vice Chair of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Marketing, Communications, & Customer Experience Committee.
